Homeless.

I’ve recently become homeless. Not homeless, but houseless. Not houseless, but a nomad.

I moved my stuff to a storage unit and hopped on a plane to Mexico.

On the morning before my flight, I took a Lyft to a hotel near the airport. During the ride we started talking about this new beginning…

I started by saying I’m technically homeless as of the moment he picked me up. He then told a story of when he was 29 he made a few bad decisions and wound up homeless… like actually homeless at a shelter.

He then told me about how he quickly learned a trade skill fixing cars and he’s done that ever since and done well for himself.

I tell that story to say, one, when you’re a privileged digital nomad, like myself, don’t make jokes about being homeless. There are people seriously struggling, for any number of reasons.

My first destination being Tulum, Mexico reenforced this even more. This is a place of culture and beauty, but it also has a ton of poverty.

The second thing I took from that story is that no place is permanent, and nothing is guaranteed. You could be homeless or a billionaire; neither is necessary permanent. Life is ever-changing, which means situations are ever-changing.

One moment life could suck and other times life is great, either way you gotta keep going.

Three things I’ve learned in my first few days of being a nomad in Mexico:

  1. Be thankful. Gratitude is everything.
  2. Help others. Especially those less fortunate.
  3. Be kind. Even when others are rude.

I believe if we all live with these three things every day, the world would be a much better place.

Until then, I’ll be hangin in Tulum.

Cheers!
