Respect.

The presidential election is quickly approaching, the debates are heating up. Gun control, LGBT, Radical Islam, building walls, ETC. I’m sure you have an opinion on all of them. Yes, I have an opinion on them. But, I want to take a second to step back and look at this from a different perspective.

We all have an opinion… whether we voice it or not is another story. For those of you who do voice your opinion, I have quickly become annoyed. First, let me stress that I am 100% for debate. I think debating is a great part of our country that makes it what it is… as long as it is done the right way.

Oh yeah, but I’m annoyed. I know y’all are concerned about that! There is one thing I have seen missing from our debates.

Respect.

Let me explain… I have recently seen the following post on social media:

These type of post are everywhere. I know you have seen them and have probably overlooked them at times. But as most of you know, I like to look way too far into things and analyze everything. It is probably obvious that these statement lack respect for anyone who disagrees. But I think this lack of respect is becoming way too common among arguments.

Let me be clear that NO ONE needs to pass any form of criteria to be treated with respect. Every person is entitled to respect. I think it is no longer a debate if one person lacks respect for the other. I don’t care if someone claims aliens should rule the world, they deserve respect.

There is a reason they feel the way they do. No one wakes up one day and randomly comes up with an opinion. There past experiences, knowledge, current situation, and a million other things formulate an opinion. You have no idea how another person views the world… I do know that it isn’t the same way you view it. Every one of us are different and I think that is what makes the world amazing. I hate to see us becoming more divided each day because we can’t seem to respect one another.

So I am going to keep this short. You never know what another person is going through. You never know what another person is thinking. And you never know why a person thinks the way they do. What we need to know is everyone is entitled to their own opinion. We need to know that everyone’s opinion deserves respect. No matter if you agree or disagree, you should still respect another person.
